Education and Outreach at St Machar’s Cathedral

We welcome you all to come and discover this remarkable place. Whether you are young or ‘young at heart’, we are busy creating events, trails, resources and outreach activities to explore the cathedral’s rich heritage and to inspire future visitors and generations together.

We offer a variety of ways to learn about the heritage of this wonderful place.

Let our interactive screen in the cathedral inspire you to discover more about the people and events that have made this building so special. See the heraldic shields and stained glass windows up close, complete puzzles, colour in shields and take a quiz to test your knowledge.

It is free to bring a group to the cathedral and we can even help with transport costs. Email us for more details and look at our Schools and Groups Visit page for available themed activities that you can book.

If you cannot visit at present we have lots of fun activities to explore. See our Digital Resources page and delve into our home learning resources – from learning about our founder St Machar and the ancient Picts, Heraldry facts and shield activities to stained glass wordsearches and dot to dots. Click on the link below to our Junior Tour Guides film Stories from the Cathedral. Performed by pupils from Kittybrewster Primary School you can discover the cathedral’s past and become an expert tour guide. There is something for everyone.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the cathedral. We would love to see any drawings/photos of the work that you do so please email us with your work or get in touch on our Instagram page.
